Group Support Systems Patterns: ThinkLets and Methodologies
نویسندگان
چکیده
Group Support Systems (GSS) emerged as a rich, flexible toolbox for facilitators to help move a group toward a goal. Research shows that groups using GSS can be far more productive than teams using other means to accomplish their tasks. However, experience in the field suggests that organizations do not tend to become selfsustaining with GSS until they incorporate the technology into their daily work practices, in support of mission critical tasks that are conducted over and over again by the practitioners themselves, rather than under the guidance of an outside facilitator. This suggests a new, perhaps higher role for GSS facilitators: to create and leave behind well-crafted, well-tested repeatable processes for others execute on their own.

ThinkLets: Achieving Predictable, Repeatable Patterns of Group Interaction with Group Support Systems (GSS)
Over the past decade, Group Support Systems (GSS) has shown that, under certain circumstances, teams using GSS can be far more productive than teams who do not use GSS. However, research results are not unequivocal; they have been ambiguous, and sometimes conflicting, which makes it difficult for GSS research to inform GSS practice. One cause of the conflict and ambiguity in GSS research result...
متن کاملCollaboration Engineering with ThinkLets to Pursue Sustained Success with Group Support Systems
Field research and laboratory experiments suggest that, under certain circumstances, people using group support systems (GSS) can be significantly more productive than people who do not use them. Yet, despite their demonstrated potential, GSS have been slow to diffuse across organizations. Drawing on the Technology Transition Model, the paper argues that the high conceptual load of GSS (i.e., u...
متن کاملProcess Support for Agile Requirements Modeling and Maintenance of E-Projects
Process support for the development and maintenance of e-projects in organizations is increasingly important because systems evolve and become entwined with other systems. The focus of this paper is on support that enables constant updating of requirements after an initial set of requirements has been produced. An approach termed Up-front Requirements Modeling for E-projects (URME) aims to prov...
متن کاملA Repeatable E-Collaboration Process Based on ThinkLets for Multi-Organization Strategy Development
In recent years, multi-organizational collaboration has become more and more important in both business and research. We conducted an action research (AR) intervention with a consortium of Finnish universities that needed to revise its joint strategy. We designed and facilitated a repeatable collaboration process for this multi-organizational strategy development. The process was built using th...
متن کاملService encounter thinklets: how to empower service agents to put value co-creation into practice
The concept of value co-creation and the service encounter as locus of this value co-creation gained much academic interest, notably in marketing research and service sciences. While the current research discourse mainly follows conceptual perspectives, there has been little research on the practical implications on service agents’ enabling co-creation of value in the information technology (IT...
